Bowers, C. A. (2006). Revitalizing the Commons: Cultural and Educational Sites of Resistance and Affirmation. Oxford: Lexington Books.
The threats to what remains of the world’s diverse cultural and environmental commons represent a unique challenge to Western universities, particularly since what these universities have designated as high-status knowledge has played such a dominant role in undermining both the cultural and natural commons. The challenges today are to understand the range of threats to the commons, to recognise the possibilities within our own rural and urban areas for revitalising the commons, and to recognise and support the efforts of non-Western cultures.
