Best Practice in Challenging Counterfeiting

Objectives

  • To identify states or regions which have notably low levels of counterfeiting or which have demonstrated success in reducing or challenging levels
  • Conversely, identify states or regions (including New or Accession States) with high levels of counterfeiting
  • Establish – through review of media and public literature – key agents and organisations within those states engaged with challenging production, distribution and consumption of counterfeits
  • Through interview and review identify activities and events which may have contributed to changes in levels of counterfeiting
  • Develop an overview of European initiatives and highlight key areas of best practice

Through desk-based research, members of the Counter team are identifying national level initiatives that have addressed consumption of counterfeit goods, indicators of their impact and measures that are taken to diminish counterfeit consumption. Researchers are also liaising with a large number of key representatives of IP holding industries and enforcement agencies to detail a range of policies and practice. The results of this research will be consolidated to determine managerial implications and recommendations for initiatives.

Outcomes

  • An overview of initiatives and organisations in Europe
  • Executive report identifying best practice examples as well as reviewing and consolidating impacts
  • Interactive, web-based report enabling further knowledge creation and continued development of the field
